The Captain's House was also the administrative heart of the school. Amongst other things the building accommodated the Captain and his family, administrative staff, sewing room, cadet captain's room, staff room, boiler room, boys toilets (‘heads’), luggage storage, post room and, of course, the verandah. Being south facing, the verandah was a popular haunt for boys as it was light and warm if the sun was shining. In the foreground is a clock tower which was also the school war memorial. Names of old boys who had died in the World Wars were engraved on plaques on the other side (Rolls of Honour). These are now in Hamble church yard.
