After his time at Mercury, Peter signed his Apprentice’s Indentures on 6 November 1943 with South American Saint Line where he remained until June 1949 serving aboard Liberty ships. He then joined Esso Transportation (formerly the Anglo-American Oil Company) until May 1958. Peter came ashore in 1958 and earned his Extra Master’s Certificate. He was subsequently employed by the College of Nautical Studies in Warsash until his retirement in April 1993. During that time his staff conducted worldwide training for licensed mariners to implement the requirements of the International Maritime Organization’s Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention. He retired as Principal Lecturer in Petrochemicals. He was predeceased by his first wife, Edna but is survived by his second wife of 29 years, Mary (nee Paul), and three children. After retirement emigrated to the USA in 1994 where he married Mary. For many years they travelled widely to visit family. Latterly he resided at The Willows in Worcester, Massachusetts where he led a happy and fulfilled life.
