We are saddened to learn of the recent death of John Barrie Street (4392) who was at the Mercury 1956-59, one of many Nottingham boys who joined in the post-war years. From Mercury he joined the Royal Navy as an Artificer Apprentice at HMS Fisgard together with a number of other OMs including Frank Spurr (4391), another Nottingham boy. Barrie went on to qualify as a Radio Electrical Artificer (Air) and spent the rest of his 22 year RN career with the Fleet Air Arm spending most of the time with 849 Squadron. After leaving the RN when he was 40 Barrie spent ten years with an MOD related company before deciding to become self-employed. Later together with his wife they ran a boarding and breeding cattery . He lived in Teddington.
