We are sorry to learn of the death of Martin Sandifer (4079) who passed away in Auckland, New Zealand on 25th February. Martin was an Essex Scholar from Shenfield who went on to join the Royal Navy in the Catering Branch and, by 1955, he was serving as an officer’s steward on the West Indies Station in the frigate HMS Morecambe Bay. After leaving the RN, in 1959, Martin trained as a nurse in Winchester before joining the Cunard liner Caronia as a hygiene officer for a world cruise. By 1963 he was working on a farm and later trained as a surveyor. In 1970 he and his wife emigrated to New Zealand in the Shaw Savill liner Akaroa and settled in Auckland where Martin worked as a surveyor and later became director of several property companies.
