On-line Edition
Following the final AGM and a farewell dinner, in 2018 and last magazine, published the next year, the Mercury Old Boys Association was formally wound up. By that time the number of active members had begun to reduce to a point where it became obvious that it would be increasingly difficult to sustain an annual event.
After a huge amount of research and hard work, his excellent book by Old Boy, Adrian “Snowy” White, went to print in 2003 on a limited run and was purchased in large numbers by former boys, staff and families. Whilst the Association no longer exists, the remaining committee members have continued to administer its affairs and monitor anything that involves the Mercury. This includes maintaining the website for as long as possible.
It is recognised that even now there are Mercury Old Boys who appear “out of the woodwork”. Also a large number of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have discovered that one of their ancestors attended the school and are interested to learn more of its history.
The administrators of the former Association have decided to publish his book online. As such it has now been transcribed to be included on the website. Whilst the copyright is still held by the administrators, anyone who wishes to do so may download the book for their own personal use as we would like to see the history of this unique establishment be held in perpetuity.
