Mark Stevenson was at Mercury for two years but at the end of that time decided that he did not wish to pursue a seagoing career and finished his education elsewhere. He worked for many years for the Greater London Council in their youth services department in Westminster whilst living in North London. At one time he owned a small yacht where he could put in to practice many of the skills he learned at Mercury. He also enjoyed travel, especially to the United States, where he had friends. He regularily came to Old Boy’s reunions and kept in touch with his group of friends including myself. He passed away in August 2026 after a long and stoic fight with poor health.
