Sadly we have recently learned of the death of Jeremy Jones (4880) from the effects of the Covid-19 virus in January 2021. He joined the Mercury in 1965 from Havant in Hampshire with an intention of joining the Royal Navy. Instead, after he left when the school closed in 1968, he had a series of jobs ashore. In September 1969 he joined Sussex County Council who sponsored him for courses at Chichester College of Further Education and eventually to the South Bank Polytechnic, where in 1976 he obtained a BSc Degree in Civil Engineering. Jeremy lived at Addlestone in Surrey and later worked for the Engineering Department of Surrey County Council, before joining Staffordshire County Council where he was involved with motorway systems. In retirement he lived at Shaftesbury in Dorset.
